Where: Forumtorget, see map
In 1953, the Forum shopping centre, owned by the Cooperative Association, opened its doors. It was the first major department store in Uppsala and the first self-service store in Sweden. It lent its name of what is now known as Forumtorget (Forum Square), which is currently one of Uppsala’s major meeting places.
The main attraction of the square is the 65-metre-long sofa that was formally inaugurated in 2018. It’s a great place to engage in a host of activities or just to sit. With its 6,726 unique lamella plates, it creates endless opportunities for various styles of sitting, and enables everyone to find his or her favourite place. When darkness falls, the very nature of the sofa changes. The glass plates spread a glow that changes colour and intensity along the entire length of the sofa. This makes the sofa as exciting and inviting a place during the dark hours as in daylight. Come and experience the changes and the many different ways to sit.
