At Vaksala torg, artist Svante Pettersson presents a temporary light sculpture inspired by the concept Complex Dimensions and Reflections. The installation consists of six mirrored monoliths whose appearance shifts through reflections, light and movement, depending on the time of day and the viewer’s position.

The mirrored surfaces capture the surrounding square, incorporating architecture, people, the sky and movement into the artwork itself. During the day, the installation interacts with natural light and the changing character of its surroundings. As darkness falls, integrated lighting brings new perspectives, depth and reflections to life.

The installation will be located on the wooden deck with planting beds in the corner of Vaksala Square, near Väderkvarnsgatan and Vaksalaskolan. This location connects the light sculpture directly to Uppsala Municipality’s ongoing efforts to transform Vaksala Square into a more attractive, vibrant and engaging public space.

The installation also forms part of the wider development of Östra City. By introducing art, light and a striking visual expression into the urban environment, the work adds another dimension to the area’s transformation. It highlights how artistic perspectives can complement urban development and offer new ways of experiencing a familiar place.

As a temporary installation, Complex Dimensions and Reflections can also be seen as an opportunity to explore new possibilities for public spaces. The artwork transforms the experience of Vaksala Square in the here and now, while reflecting a broader vision for Östra City – one in which culture, art and creative design help shape the area’s identity and future urban life.
